My mother was diagnosed with Epilepsy when she was pregnant with me. She was married and I would be the first of her four children. She hit a tree while driving and could not remember what happened. That was in 1959 when the word was associated with the horrors of severe mental illness. I grew up not speaking about it to anyone. We didn't even speak about amongst the family. It's so funny that you post this becuase my brother and I had a discussion about how the effects of a parent with this illness can have lasting effects on their children. It creates a world where vulnerability and protection exist in a mind that is not mature enough to handle it. I will have to visit this again when I can speak from a calmer heart than the six year old one that is typing now.
